DAY 1 BAGS

In 2019, Kym Rapier first encountered the inspiring story of 19-year-old Hunter Beaton, a young man on a mission to solve a national problem. As the founder of Day 1 Bags, Hunter was providing backpacks, suitcases, and duffel bags to foster youth so they wouldn’t have to carry their belongings in trash bags when moving between homes.

While others overlooked him, Kym believed in his vision. Through Kym’s Angels Foundation, she provided $125,000 over two years to help Hunter scale his impact. Her early investment allowed Day 1 Bags to expand across Texas and, eventually, the nation—bringing dignity and compassion to foster children in 47 states.

Kym’s Angels also helped elevate Hunter’s voice—securing local press that led to a national feature on Good Morning America, reaching millions. Today, Day 1 Bags has expanded to support graduating foster seniors as well—providing celebratory bags filled with gift cards, books, and supplies to remind them they are seen and valued. With support from Kym’s Angels, this work now touches young people in Texas, Florida, Colorado, and beyond.
